Auctioning of khatara cars fetches BMC ₹4.23 crore
The BMC in Mumbai has auctioned 4,533 abandoned vehicles to scrap dealers, earning ₹4.23 crore. The vehicles were melted, recycled, and sold as scrap. The auction process has been changed to speed up the process, with pictures of abandoned vehicles being uploaded to an eAuction portal. After a notice is issued, the vehicles are towed to scrapyards and depots. The entire process takes three months, and the vehicles are auctioned to make space for other abandoned vehicles. There have been no cases of luxury cars being abandoned.

MSRDC collected ₹120.84 crore in toll on two highways in six months
Car owners in Mumbai and surrounding areas have paid ₹120.84 crore in toll for using the Eastern and Western Express Highways in the first half of 2023, according to data from the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation. The toll is for the flyovers and bridges across the city, not the highways themselves, said Radheshyam Mopalwar, managing director of MSRDC, in response to a demand from a local politician to stop charging motorists for using the highways. Toll rates for cars are ₹40 for one way.
