Auctioning of khatara cars fetches BMC 4.23 crore

The BMC in Mumbai has auctioned 4,533 abandoned vehicles to scrap dealers, earning ₹4.23 crore. The vehicles were melted, recycled, and sold as scrap. The auction process has been changed to speed up the process, with pictures of abandoned vehicles being uploaded to an eAuction portal. After a notice is issued, the vehicles are towed to scrapyards and depots. The entire process takes three months, and the vehicles are auctioned to make space for other abandoned vehicles. There have been no cases of luxury cars being abandoned.

MSRDC collected 120.84 crore in toll on two highways in six months

Car owners in Mumbai and surrounding areas have paid ₹120.84 crore in toll for using the Eastern and Western Express Highways in the first half of 2023, according to data from the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation. The toll is for the flyovers and bridges across the city, not the highways themselves, said Radheshyam Mopalwar, managing director of MSRDC, in response to a demand from a local politician to stop charging motorists for using the highways. Toll rates for cars are ₹40 for one way.

Mahim Causeway to be widened from 6 lanes to 10 lanes

Mumbai commuters will face a difficult journey between the city and suburbs for the next 36 months as a key bridge is taken down for renovation. The bridge over River Mithi, part of Mahim Causeway, will be replaced with a wider and longer path. The bridge is a critical junction connecting Mahim with SV Road and is used by office workers and those travelling to the airport. The renovation is necessary as the bridge is almost 60 years old, and the work will be carried out in phases over the next three years.

BEST’s wet lease drivers call off strike after meeting with CM

Drivers with wet lease operators on contract with BEST have ended their strike after a meeting with the chief minister, who agreed to some of their demands. 90% of the wet lease buses were back on the road by Tuesday evening. The drivers' demands included a salary hike, paid leaves, annual bonuses, and free bus passes. The government also agreed to discuss the possibility of making the drivers permanent BEST employees. BEST authorities reported a drop in daily passenger numbers and revenues during the strike.

Thane college fined 1.1 lakh for delaying marksheets by three years

Soon, students of government-run schools will be served multigrain foods

The eight-member committee headed by celebrity chef Vishnu Manohar submitted a report to the state education minister. “To get good quality of food, the government must increase the remuneration of the person or organisations appointed to prepare midday meals,” the report stated

This is the first time the school education department constituted such a committee whose main aim was to incorporate millet and other nutrients in a child’s diet.
