Top U.S. Diplomat Snubbed By Niger Junta; New Prime Minister Appointed | Details

Snubbing the United States and pro-west ECOWAS, the Niger junta has appointed a new transitional prime minister. Ali Lamine Zeine will now lead a caretaker government a week after the military coup. The appointment by coup leader General Tiani comes a day after ECOWAS deadline for the military to reinstate the President expired. The Niger junta also snubbed the United States by not allowing its top diplomat to meet the coup leader or President Bazoum, who is in detention.
